Govt pleader molests sexual assault victim who seeks legal aid; Police issue lookout notice
Kochi: Police have issued a lookout notice for a former senior government pleader, K G Manu, who is the accused in a sexual assault case. The High Court had rejected Manu’s anticipatory bail plea and directed him to appear before the investigating officer within ten days. The lookout notice has been issued after he failed to meet this deadline.
As per the complaint lodged against him, a young woman who came to Manu seeking legal help regarding a molestation case was sexually assaulted by him. He befriended her and sexually abused her at the Kochi office and at the woman’s home and also threatened the woman by filming her private parts, the complaint states. After the police lodged a complaint based on the woman’s statement, the Advocate General accepted Manu’s resignation. Manu has appeared as a prosecutor and special public prosecutor in several criminal cases.
When considering the anticipatory bail application, the court had clarified that this is a serious case. The High court also sought a report on the health and mental condition of the victimised woman. After considering this, the court rejected the accused’s anticipatory bail application.
Meanwhile, some of Manu’s relatives and friends have been taken into custody by the police for allegedly helping him to hide and destroy evidence. Following this, the relatives filed an anticipatory bail application.
